The perennially overrated Gonzaga Bulldogs have finally lost a basketball game this season and all the NCAA sporting world should rejoice. While real basketball teams are battling in the ACC, Gonzaga is beating up on the basketball programs of the WCC for half the year, racking up wins and stats as per usual and climbing up in the ranks.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. If teams like Gonzaga want to be taken seriously, they need to do a study-abroad exchange program for a year. If Gonzaga can come play a majority of their games in the ACC or SEC next year, hold on to the top one or two spots, then they can return to the WCC and everyone will know they are a real contender and some of the basketball programs in the WCC aren’t really running on tier-two sub NIT talent.
Until then, whenever Gonzaga is in the top five in the last part of the season, everyone will rightfully assume it is with an asterisk and they are running on false confidence that will never see them landing a NCAA title.
